Make Room for Your Car in the Garage: Tips to Reduce Clutter

If your garage has gotten out of control, it’s not that tough to rein it back in. The first thing to do is to get rid of unneeded clutter. Rule of thumb: If you haven’t used it in three years, get rid of it. Either donate it, have a garage sale or pitch it.

Next, add some shelves and hooks to get things off the floor. If your garage is barely big enough for the car, hang shelves on the walls above car height, but make sure you leave enough room to get in and out of your vehicle without knocking yourself unconscious. To stop your car before it’s too late, bolt a 2 by 4 to the floor as a tire stop or hang a tennis ball where you want your windshield to be. When the glass touches the ball, stop.
